Posting about games, movies, & TV; often about my retro collection and thrift shop/craigslist deals I find to get more games affordably. Featuring Salem the cat 🐈‍⬛ . Long form writing coming soon TM.
It’s rough to do it, but it’s stable once you’ve learned it. No updates that break things are forced on you. I’m hoping it keeps feeling this impressive. I’m getting as good if not better performance and my fans don’t need to spin near as loud.

Once you install the nvidia driver, get the anti cheat some games need installed from steam, learn what games need to be forced as direct x 12, learn how to disable the steam overlay, and learn how to enable the bleeding edge proton version Linux gaming does start to feel real good.

I’ve got games running in Linux, couldn’t tell you how. Restarting and launching the game multiple times seem required for some. I haven’t been asked to give anyone money, and only Firefox bothered me about AI. Oh and the Logitech app required for my mouse isn’t broken and uninstallable.

I’ve been stable on EndeavourOS most the afternoon, I like the way it’s doing most things. It’s wild how little work Apple and Microsoft put into the everyday little things you are always adjusting these days. You can see the difference right away on Linux.

Sweet of you to mention. I jumped to endeavorOS, it’s running great. Sounds like they are both about as straight forward to setup.

I decided to try EndeavorOS and I got games running, and have been using it without issue for a few hours now.

They only ship the open source drivers with Debian, and I need the proprietary ones for my card to get best performance. I didn’t check the nightly builds though.

Seems like EndeavourOS might be the path for me wanting to play video games with an Nvidia card. Debian will have to wait, it will be on my m1 MacBook Air soon enough.

I curse the day I got 3 1080tis and a 2080ti for $90.

Second hand nvidia cards are real cheap sometimes, and so I live in hell when it comes to Linux. The desire for an amd card ever grows.

I’m on a 2080ti. Nvidia has recently updated drivers folks say they are running in Debian. The trick is getting there. Debian officially supports driver version 550, but it’s not till version 555 that nvidia addresses the issues that make Wayland not work. Some folks are running 575 on Debian.
November 19, 2025 at 6:02 PM
Mostly I just want Wayland to work, which only feels possible if I stick with the very underpowered open source driver.

Getting current nvidia drivers to work on Debian is feeling impossible.

True, I move we also make it illegal to wake up with a headache under any circumstance. The headache should have to wait at least an hour.

That’s fair. There’s something about Kirk and Picard playing off each other that works for me. It’s not an ambitious movie doing much scifi besides that, which helps it age well, but also makes it real boring if you are not locked into the captain stuff.

Love the idea of a James Bond fan who thought he died at the end of a movie.
