Last night I thoroughly enjoyed seeing an outdoor screening of the 2005 Pride and Prejudice at one of the film’s locations, Basildon Park ❤️ #janeausten #prideandprejudice

Loved seeing costumes from the 2005 P&P too!
On the left the photo shows a copy of the outfit worn by Keira Knightley playing Elizabeth Bennet in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice film. The outfit is mainly a tawny coloured long coat. There is a hint of a greyish/blue dress underneath. On the right is the actual outfit worn by Matthew Macfadyen when he played Mr Darcy. It shows a whitish grey cravat, dark blue/black tailcoat, greyish breeches and black boots. There is a hint of a light blue waistcoat underneath. Beneath both outfits sits a clapperboard saying Pride and Prejudice, roll 28A, scene 7, shot 37, take 3, Joe Wright, Roman Osin, 22 July 2004. The costumes are from the scene is when Lizzie and Darcy argue after the Rosings church service (when Colonel Fitzwilliam unknowingly indicated Darcy separated Bingley from Jane). The scene was filmed at the Temple of Apollo at Stourhead.

Yesterday, I finally ticked off one the National Trust places I most wanted to visit - #Stourhead in Wiltshire. It did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous.

Just finished Fahrenheit 451. Bradbury wrote an afterword in the edition I read. I’d like a world full of readers and learners and knowers please.
Extract from the afterword from Fahrenheit 451, 2008 edition. “There remains only to mention a prediction that my fire chief, Beatty, made in 1953, halfway through my book. It had to do with books being burned without matches or fire. Because you don’t have to burn books do you, if the world starts to fill up with non-readers, non-learners, non-knowers?”

Finished “Miss Austen” by Gill Hornby with a couple of weeks to spare before the TV adaptation starts. Really enjoyed the book and looking forward to the adaptation! #booksky

It took me a while to feel like I was in the right frame of mind (due to a bereavement earlier this year) to read “With the end in mind” by Kathryn Mannix, but I’m glad I have. Cried nearly every chapter. A must-read and v interesting to read now after the debates on Asst Dying Bill. #BookSky

Wonderful time spent in North Yorkshire for holiday. Lucky with the weather. Visited enough castles and abbeys to last a while! Favourite places were Whitby Abbey, Fountains Abbey (see photo - astonishing place), Brimham Rocks, a walk up to Roseberry Topping, & the market towns like Richmond.

Working my way through my unread books and finished these two which I enjoyed.

Don’t often read non-fiction but loved discovering more about emergency planning.

And Miss Benson’s Beetle was a really quirky adventure.

Both books were also quite moving.

It’s taken me a few weeks but finally finished my third book of 2024. Set myself a challenge to read all the books I own that I’ve never read (of course that hasn’t prevented me from buying more books 😬). This one was epic and evocative. A must read.
