I could be missing some social/historical/cultural context, but I think it's a testament to how unsubtle Mo Xi's devotion is to Gu Mang that 30k men looked at the their commanding officer's martial brother and decided it was more appropriate to call him "Stepdad" instead of some variant of "Uncle."
