Things that make me happy today: my pin collection, all pins in place. We don't get decorations out when we're traveling fast but we're here for 3 more days.
Enamel pins from Disney, Foxloft Studios and other sources displayed on a fabric banner with diagonal strips in deep blue, gold, red, green, and brown. The banner is hung under a wooden arch, above a fake stone fireplace.

WIP (not quite) Wednesday. Chugging along, finally time to work on the FPP project. We're moving fast down to FL and applique is easier for short stays, but at our current location for 5 days so there's time to break out the sewing machine. #quiltsky #quilting #foundationpaperpiecing #FPP

WIP Wednesday: "assembly line" applique.

WIP Wednesday: new favorite quilt tool, a water brush. Filled with plain water, use to trace sewing lines before removing papers. Makes foundation paper easier to tear along the lines and leaves fewer leftover bits to pick out with tweezers. #quiltsky #FPP

WIP Wednesday: working out flower and leaf placement for the first of 4 borders. Almost done with this one! (and testing the border with the center, very glad I really like them together.) #quiltsky #applique
Bottom edge of applique quilt. The border has cream and blue chevrons, then twining morning glory vines with pale blue and white flowers, with small traditional pieced blocks above that. The background is a dark rust color. The center of the border is a larger triangle shape and is set with flowers in full bloom and an english robin perched on the vines. In the center the flowers are paper pieces laid in place. Below the quilt on the working surface are two spare leaves cut from green fabrics.

WIP Wednesday - 3 of 4 D2L sections for Wild Goose Island from Quiltworx. I'm happy with the current plan of swapping between WGI and Morning Glories when we move; it's working to apply a little artificial pressure to get stuff done.

WIP Wednesday: Really quite happy with how the border design is turning out so far - once this section is done it will serve as a model for the other 7 sections and I can start working on the center of this border strip. #quiltsky #applique #quilting
Wide border strip for a quilt. Against a rust backing, the outer edge of the border is pale blue and cream chevrons, then a morning glory vine in shades of green with blue and cream flowers and buds, then a row of small traditional blocks set on point, in blues, creams, pale golds and pinks. A small piece of paper marked "C" is basted to the top of the strip. The edges are unfinished and fraying slightly.

Appliqued morning glory flowers laid out in a row on a light board. Four applique flowers with blue petals and a white funnel labeled A through D follow. The last piece is another, simpler drawing of a morning glory flower; the ribs have been shortened to stubby points and the number of seams on the petals have been reduced.

WIP Wednesday. Serendipity is realizing you need a fair bit of newsprint for your current unit applique project, in the middle of cutting papers for your next paper-piecing project.

I love visiting the western mountain parks in early summer - the waterfalls are always spectacular.
Falls Creek waterfall on Steven Canyon road in Mt Rainier National Park. Sunlight gilds the spray at the top of a narrow waterfall that splits into two white cascades about halfway down its plunge into a shadowed gorge. Moss covers the rocks on either side of the falls, and small trees are growing around it. Sunlight shines through the green leaves.

WIP Wednesday... Top's where I started, bottom is tonight. It makes me laugh that the second photo with all the gaps and raw edges is _real progress_, whee!

At the corner is a traditional fan block. In the strip of space (about 5-6 inches) between the blocks and the chevrons is a morning glory vine with pale blue flowers appliqued in the corner. In the top photo, thick green vines twine along out from the flower section, alternating with every crossing. In the bottom photo, the twining stems haven been cut into sections and sewn in place, making them about half as wide as before. There are many irregular gaps where leaves and flowers will be appliqued later.

Bargaining with the jerkbrain: "Ok, yes. Those crossing stems are _very slightly_ out of alignment because of how they were sewn. Other stems won't be. If you can still even _remember_ where they are when all the borders are done, you can fix them then." #quiltsky #applique
medium green stem pieces on a rust background - there are gaps in the stems where leaves and flowers will be sewn in place later. The stems are sewn of two different fabrics and they twine around each other. Where the stems cross over each other, the ones underneath are minutely out of alignment.

Here's the vine sewn down after removing the parts that will be under flowers or leaves - I'd say that's about 50% or less of what I started with. #quiltsky #applique
