Same subject, two different pallet knife painting studies as I’m trying to get the hang of using one knife for everything, and a paint brand that I don’t usually use.
The consistency of the paint is thin and covers surprisingly well. I can live with it 😊

Painting abstracts is like - you have closed your eyes and are using your hand as if it’s your non dominate hand, miss the part of the painting you were aiming for and then accept whatever it is that just emerged and fight the urge to correct it. #abstractart

Last year I did a couple of old dogs, so this year it’s Kenny and Kitten, two 30x30cm paintings to be exhibited with a collection of other 30x30cm paintings at the Bowerbird art market this coming weekend. #art #kittens #exhibition

I made a YouTube video out of a phone recording of my lesson demo done in the art class I was running. I did a bit of editing, but it’s rough as guts!

Two Fridas I painted for an expressive portraits short course. Can you even plural a name? It doesn’t look right. So I asked AI google and it answered with “the title of Frida Kahlo’s famous painting is The Two Fridas (Las dos Fridas in Spanish).
Fancy that! #portrait #art

Daisy is one of the first heads I’ve painted using an AI image as a reference. I’ve done a few more since and surprisingly they’re more difficult to paint than an actual photo of a person’s head because the light falls oddly on the features and you don’t notice that at first glance.

#100heads challenge no 44, Heath. I’ve predicted it’ll take me 2 years to complete this challenge, I’m nearly half way there. Started in Jan 2024. #portrait #art

I wrote a blog about my latest 3 lesson short course “loosening up with acrylics”. I wrote this for promotional purposes and also for keeping a record of the work done during the course. I was happy with the 3 lessons of two and a half hours long. #artschool

Someone once said “it doesn’t matter what you paint but how you paint it.” Which is true, methinks 😊 #painting

I set myself a challenge to paint this entire painting with 1 brush, and nearly pulled it off except for a couple of tiny touch ups at the end. #painting #artchallenge

1 month into 2025 and I’ve stuck to my resolution of posting on social media every day. I’ve got a variety of social media platforms, and was happy to discover Bluesky and add it to my platforms to choose from. #artist #painting

Did some Plein air painting in the Adelaide parklands, and this painting I’ve submitted to the parklands art prize. 😊

This is Anakin, he’s not my dog but I’ve met him at the dog park and he gets on well with my own young, XL Labrador. 🥰 #art

My own studies and demos from my “loosening up with acrylics” short course, and the results from the participants in the first lesson. It was a lot of fun 😊

I was asked to make a logo for St Joseph church, Brighton’s 100th year anniversary. On the left is my little painting in a re-purposed support, the logo centre and then on the right with a filter on my painting. I’m not a digital artist but I kind of like how badly I cut the image out…very human 😊

I saw a little fairy wren in real life for the first time the other day when we went up to Harndorf in the Adelaide hills. Tiny little thing in a secluded spot in the bush, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. 🥰 #bird #painting

100heads challenge no 33 - Paul. Painted this head entirely with coloured gesso and matt medium. The flat kind of chalk-velvet finish feels like lime washed plaster. Having a bit of a play before I start back on my commissions list and lesson prep for term 1. Thinking to play with oils next…

The theme for the next Redhouse group exhibition is House, Home, Haven… for this I’ve painted a juxtaposition of my abstract method with the representation of a natural thing - cave.

Did a bit more work on my still life and popped it back on the wall to give it context…still need to lighten the foreground. How’s the dogs though? I wasn’t going to let them onto our new hand-me-down red leather couch but that only lasted a day. #dogs #art
