It's always worth trying, and even if they're not actively hiring they usually hold onto applications for when they need more hands and can reach out at any time to offer you a job

Honestly the most common way I've seen is people just going to nearby shops, like at least once a week I saw someone new filling out an application in the lobby, look for local plumbing, electrician, hvac, painter or anything else that comes to mind
