Good thing people vote based on reality and not perception then, hey? Oh wait..

Progressives can tool around in the back focused on crafting the *perfect* zoning regulation for one city block - and conservatives meanwhile will continue to win and grow their power. Seems like a great result!

Ezra is also talking about perception here. People *feel* like Texas has been doing better because they've been doing a lot more than California, which gets constantly bogged down in minutia. The main underlying point of Abundance is that progressives need to actually *do* stuff - not just talk

They need to pick a lane - either they choose what people see and are publishers, and must carry that responsibility and liability. Or they are simple platforms and should not control what content users see whatsoever.

They can not have a foot in both worlds, but the responsibility of niether.

But why would anyone *actually* rebel if they're constantly being piped information that reaffirms their world view over and over? When simply posting and liking content makes them feel like righteous activists on the march?

I don't know, it's a complex question - there's always been a tension there, and it's never been perfect (or even close to)

But I do know that the internet and social media have made it worse - and *much* easier for people to manipulate and exploit others.

There can not be utopia without a mutual understanding of reality.

There can not be science without mutually agreed upon facts.

There can not be democracy without mutually agreed upon respect for one another and respect for facts and reality.

All that's left is demagoguery and exploitation.

Eh, i think it's far more likely we accelerate in the direction we're already going rather than breaking the echo chambers in any meaningful way

We'll have AI driven information silos so that absolutely everything you see, news, email, social media - will all be fed to you by an AI. Reality is dead

And simpler is better, imo. If I want a flat chronological feed? That should be there.

The more you tailor the algorithms the more careful you have to be - or you end up in the scenario we have now. People are piping hundreds of hours of bullshit directly into the brains with zero critical thought.

We could also just kill the algorithms. Show content based on location, popularity/engagement etc.

Algorithms reinforce silos of information - their use should be much more tightly controlled.

I think it's probably easier to just build a bunch of stuff rather than trying to completely overthrow the current standards of legal ownership that have been in place for a century+ and working through that mess - especially with the current makeup of the Supreme Court.
