Got a call from a parent today.

Her teen with dyslexia is expected to “fill in the blanks” on notes meant as accommodations.

For students with processing challenges, that’s not access — that’s another barrier.

“The brain is most malleable early in life - this is when intervention can make the biggest difference.” Dr. Nadine Gaab

After Grade 4, it can take 4× longer 2 close reading gaps.
Early screening & structured literacy in the early years change lives — & protect self-esteem.

“When I was a kid they didn’t call it dyslexia. They called it… you were slow”-Whoopi Goldberg

Dyslexia is not a lack of intelligence. It’s a difference in how the brain processes language.

Let’s change the words. Let’s change the story. ❤️

“Before I had dyslexia, you know what I had? Stupid. Lazy. Useless.” — Will Trent

No one should ever feel this way because of how their brain learns.

“At 31, I found out I wasn’t stupid or lazy. I had something with a name.”

- Henry Winkler

Dyslexia doesn’t define intelligence, it defines how the brain learns.

Waiting to long for a diagnosis with or without science informed evidence based instruction can be hard on a child with dyslexia!! it’s a lot harder to overcome Dyslexia once mental health becomes an issue. #DyslexiaBC #bced #bcpoli #inclusion #inclusive

Nadine Gabb is all about early screening! Which leads to better instruction if used properly and the early identification of students struggling to read, and those with Dyslexia!
