Super tall panel, inset panel, splitting lengths/widths. Makes the action very dynamic! And it's always nice to see Hawkman around.

The artist doing World's Finest right now uses panels really, really well. It's nice to see. Production is such that care like that is hard to come by. Really good job changing the width around, good choice of full-page art. And so on. And the characters are all very physical.

Balthasar is not a thesis statements kind of guy. But this might help. I scanned it for one of my phd students: it's Balthasar's explanation of his method and goals in Theo-Drama vol. 1. drive.google.com/file/d/1_5xc...

I keep forgetting that they're evacuating ALL OF EARTH over at DC Comics. I refuse to understand why. Little editorial notes keep telling me what to read. Je refuse.

Reposting this because I’m still thinking about it. Not sure what Balthasar meant by “the post-human” in the 1980s, but I want to believe he saw Blade Runner.

I like Waid’s take on the young Superman (here: Superboy). Earnest, hard on himself, imperfect, doing his best. (Action Comics no. 1092)

Time to recommend this book again. Lots of callbacks to the original comics and it’s good!

Now for our regular reminder that the actual character the Punisher hates cops. (Also the author who created him is real mad at how cops have appropriated and misunderstood the character.) None of this is important as such but it matters to me.

my friend says some of my takes are “Sicilian grandma” interpretations of Catholic things. (part of my cultural background is very Chicago-Sicilian.) just imagine a dedicated little corner of my brain looks like this:

Audrey Hepburn. She spent her later years dedicating herself to humanitarian causes, too. (Especially UNICEF.) So she's a cool person.

I do my best to be patient and generous but even I get tired of people being holier-than-thou with me about the Catholic Church. Mainly it’s just exhausting. And I know it’s social media, but man… I’ve written books and articles ABOUT the Catholic Church and its sins. I am doing my level best here.

Superman (in costume but with Lois Lane so why the costume): helping with dinnerware.

Lois Lane: drinking wine, you got it, everyone else.

Oh btw Kara is having a Little Mermaid A Plot. Because this series is leaning into (1) animals, (2) stupid comic bullshit (laudatory).

I like the idea that Superman knows Kryptonian but doesn’t know its root words and such, because who cares (Kryptonians probably), so here he’s just guessing “hey this bunny name and Kandor sound similar,” and Lesla is like, “not really.”

Or she just dislikes him. It’s not actually clear to me.
