City elections were today and my polling place is a Chevy dealership. For the first time they had at least a dozen disclaimers that “signs posted are due to the election and do not represent the beliefs of our organization.” It’s a bad sign when explicitly neutral voting information requires this.

It’s a good time to spend the day at a student women’s and gender studies conference. Started strong with a panel on craftivism and using craft to improve sex ed.

It has been a week of professional highs and lows. Saturday I was on an amazing panel about feminist archival practice as part of an exhibition, The Last Safe Abortion, a career highlight. On Tuesday the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center I established and ran closed with a few hours notice.

I started pulling books to take home to work from home the next two weeks and then realized I may end up in the office anyway since these were just the essentials for catching up on writing.

I’m a historian and my husband is an engineer so I like to see if our daughter will be more drawn to STEM or arts and humanities. Her favorite Christmas gifts were a toy tool set and belt and a play car engine to take apart. I’m clearly losing.

I’ve been thinking about how we can provide vicarious trauma training for our students and then was stopped in my tracks when I realized I had to read about premature birth for work. So actually we could all use some trauma training.

Always love seeing the rare history of midwifery books at UNMC ‘s library. Today we saw this 1635 book, The Happy Delivery of Women, which had 2 female owners and was printed by a woman for a female publisher. #HerBook 🗃️
