What on earth! How have we come to this?

They teach them language features and terminology in Eng Lit in schools now. Quite often the kids don’t even read or understand the poem/extract, they just identify techniques. So sad, no enjoyment or, as you say, critical thinking. Thank you Mr Gove. (Bastard)

Another thing about literature is that there is a perceived ‘Canon’ and you’re not allowed to disagree with it.
I disagree with a lot of it.
