I thought when I heard the performance that there were echoes of the Ravel in the Psycho score, and on relistening I still think so though I can't quite pinpoint what it is. Something about the contrast between the spiky and the lyrical?

Now Continental Circus, from the following year, soundtrack to a documentary about motorbike racing, apparently.

It's Ultan not Eltan O'Brien, my apologies to him. Also noted there is one cover, of St James Infirmary, inspired by Jurd hearing Louis Armstrong's version. Jazzwise describes the cover as 'mantra-like' - v intense. Everything else written by Jurd.

It's even better live, but I'm loving the music all over again on this vinyl record - the first vinyl I've bought in around 40 yrs! Line-up is Jurd on trumpet, Eltan O'Brien on violin/viola, Martin Green on accordion, Ruth Goller on bass & Corrie Dick on percussion. All superlative musicians.

Every song has associations from our 47 years together - some make me cry but just as many make me smile or dance. There’s 13+ hours on the playlist so lots more good stuff to come!
