This is a humble request for a favour. If you've read my new book, A History of England in 25 Poems - thank you so much! I would be so grateful if you could take a few minutes to leave an honest review online. Thank you 🙏😊

I like my #WilliamMorris notebook but am persistently troubled by the floorplan implied in the logo (on every page). What does William keep at home in the tiny windowless room without a door? Is the large space without an entrance useful / beautiful? This distracts me a lot in meetings.

Want to hear me say 'buttocks', 'cock and balls', 'vulva', 'farting' & 'flatulence', for FREE? Listen to my #audiobook preview on Am*zon! Has the algorithm been making mischief with its sample selection? I think so! (The preview on Google is just the Introduction, which probably makes more sense...)

I began my morning singing the Faure Requiem for All Souls Day at #Christchurch Priory. An incredibly powerful service of lifting up sadness, memory, thankfulness and hope. When words run out, music and liturgy are a gift. #AllHallows #AllSouls

Is this the most beautiful thing @britishmuseum.bsky.social? Whenever I visit, it takes my breath away - pure magic. Gold oak wreath with a bee and two cicadas, 350-300 BC. Exact provenance unclear (unethical trading and collecting practices in the early 20thC). www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o...

As a big #Beano fan, I just knew my son would love the Tring Tiles - like the Gospel meeting Dennis the Menace. If Christ was fully God and fully human, what did that mean when he was 10 years old? This #medieval comic strip imagines all the mischief. One of my favourite things in the British Museum

Had a great time this morning with @cerysmatthews.bsky.social on BBC 6 Music, talking about #poetry and #history and my new history book #AHistoryOfEnglandIn25Poems. Brilliant to time travel with some of the very earliest poems in the book! Also: cheese! #IYKYK www.penguin.co.uk/books/461263...

'Upon Saint Crispin’s day!' Today, 25 October, is the anniversary of the Battle of #Agincourt. One chapter in #AHistoryOfEnglandIn25Poems starts with the early 15th-century Agincourt Carol as a way into the medieval battle - taking us beyond the familiar story... #medieval #history #StCrispinsDay

I'd love to see you online for 'A Drink With The Idler' (and me!) on Thursday 30 October, 6-7pm. We'll be chatting about #history, #poetry, #England - and you can ask me anything! Book here: www.idler.co.uk/product/a-dr...

Big ambitions in the #library yesterday...
I had the shelfmarks for the #books I wanted written on the back of this postcard. For the record, I don't want to read faster, but #reading better (not necessarily more 'efficiently') is always the goal. And I love this old Pelican cover (see AltText).

I'm always looking for portals into the past... Here's A Telescopic View of the Great Exhibition of 1851, currently in the excellent #SpinelessWonders exhibition @senatehouselib.bsky.social. Surprisingly immersive - I could hear the bustle of the crowds! #portal #TimeTravel #history #Victorian
