Back to the #dollhouse remodel. Added windows on the sides and a round port hole window above the front door. That window is in the bathroom.

The cat is enjoying her new catnip banana.

I can only spell banana by humming the Gwen Stefani tune…. Hollaback

The front needed much work to get it looking sharp. New paint and sanding of edges. Added new windows and increased the sizes of others. Installed cedar shake style shingles that were stained with shellac. Nice color. Painted the front door fire engine red and created a trim like wainscoting.

Progress. After a white wash of Killz paint I was able to add color to the rooms. This is also the first mock up of the floor materials. I re used old tile, vinyl flooring and paint from old jobs. The cut off spindle scraps for a new life as a support column and end cap for railing.

With a ruler for scale there was a refrigerator and a kitchen sink/counter. I added the 4 “stove” burners by drilling a forstner bit just so to give impression.

The dollhouse had several handmade pieces that were made from a basic 2X4. Bathtub, vanity sink, and a Loo. I cut a circle for a new window for the bathroom that was not original. #makeit #maker

A before and during photos of a vintage dollhouse I renovated for my daughter that my father made for his 50 or so years ago.

Amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do. Primed and sanded. The floor plan is original: 2 bed, 1 bath, 2 balconies, 1 car garage and an open floor plan downstairs decades before. I don’t know how many hours he spent doing this or where the style came from, my father was always creative.

As I begin to transform the doll house I add some more detail to what he created. Additional windows were cut and added. Salvaged old banister spindles to use as support columns in front. Removed old asphalt shingle roof, that took off like 20lbs. Take care of your self and your home.

After sanding, cleaning, re-nailing and more sanding I have the stripped down version of what my dad was dealing with at the time. I write this because I sit with him now in the hospital as he goes through chemotherapy for cancer. I do not have a clue what he is going through now. So I write this.

Here is what the inside looked like when I started. Wood rot, mold, 🐁 and water damage. A total gut and restoration to the ‘studs’. The house had a kitchen counter with built in sink & a refrigerator hand made by my father. He also created a bathroom vanity, tub and commode. 2x4’s and plywood only

This doll house was made by my father for my sister in 1977(+\-). I restored it several years ago for my daughter. This is the condition it was in when I received it. My father had a corded black and decker drill and an old Skill circular saw. All hand built by him and decorated by my mother.

This doll house was not intended to be a cat home.
