There are not enough words to express how very much I love my child. Pouring love into another human being, then watching them grow, and becoming the beneficiary of that same love is the greatest gift I could ever receive.

The Orangeburg, SC massacre was on this date in 1968. 9 Highway Patrol officers fired into an unarmed crowd protesting segregation at All Star Bowling Lanes. 2 college students, Henry Smith & Samuel Hammond and 1 HS student, Delano Middleton were killed, all Black males. 27 more were injured.

The Great Dismal Swamp is a 190 sq mile swamp running from SE Virginia to NE North Carolina. Before the Civil War, it was home to 1000s of formerly enslaved people. References can be found to the formerly enslaved (known as maroons) who settled in the swamp dating back to well before the 1700s.

Garden of Eatonville

Eatonville, Fla was officially incorporated on August 15, 1887 by 27 registered Black voters. Columbus H. Borger, a Black man, served as its 1st mayor. 7 years later, Zora Neale Hurston’s family moved to town. Her father would go on to become mayor of Eatonville in 1897.

The 15th Amendment, giving Black people the right to vote, was ratified on this date in 1870. It specifically prohibits the US government from denying any citizen the right to vote based on their "race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

This guy turned 9 today. I still remember the moment he entered the world. I will forever be in love with him and his little brother. G made me a Bama. It’s been love full circle and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Bama loves GZ!
