PhDone ✔️ Passed my viva voce examination with no corrections yesterday! Thanks to my wonderful supervisors, examiners and colleagues for their support and care (and judicious pedantry!) on this incredible DPhil journey. Let the post-doc era commence! 💐📖👩🏻‍🎓🎉 #phdone #phd #postdoc

PhD viva voce exam prep in full swing. Any hot tips, academia? What have I not thought of, that you wish you’d known before you did yours?! (Ps it’s in the UK, so no slides - just a conversation about thesis with two examiners.) #phdlife

One of our MSc applied linguistics students is looking for UK teachers to take part in a survey about working with multilingual/EAL students. Please complete the survey if you can here: qualtricsxmd56r9tjxj.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_... and share with teaching colleagues. Thanks!

What will be finished off first: me or my lit review?! 😂

Little sketch practice to break up the process of turning my notes into something coherent…

All set for @hwc001.bsky.social workshop on evidence informed EAL education at the #naldic32 taking place today @ox.ac.uk Saïd Business School. How do we involve practitioners in planning and conducting research?

Hello #appliedlinguistics and #SLA researchers! Trying to find anyone interested in #EAL and #multilingual learners, or #MFL and pedagogy. Not expecting there are many people yet who also research using songs for teaching languages but if you’re on here, let’s connect!

Does anything beat seeing your first ever research paper printed on actual paper?! 🥹 Super excited to receive a copy of www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.... this morning. It’s about how teachers use songs in early years and primary school settings. Open access, and free to read! #education #research

97 kids, 9 months, 8000 sentences later… PhD data collection ✔️ Reminds me of the day I took this photo in Skye. Cycled 45 miles on seriously laborious hills (even the downhills hurt that day!) It was only 2/3 way through the overall journey, but today feels a bit like that. Celebrate the pit stops!

This is what I have (same as the CLMM tutorial code but I had to change type = “1” to type = “o” to make it work). Not sure that affects the legend. I’ve tried messing about with the inset but that doesn’t make any difference…

R coders: how do I make my “topright” legend not overlap the plot please?! See left: my output, vs right: the tutorial. My code is the same as theirs but 🤷🏻‍♀️
