The idea that disabled people are just given what they need is far too prevalent. It took me ~4 years to save for a wheelchair that was suitable, and I still struggle with pain from damage caused by using an unsuitable one.

I hope your mobility scooter provides you the freedom & autonomy you need.

I was livid the other week after stumbling across an article which stated that people were getting motability vehicles for anxiety & constipation. The disinformation is infuriating & we all know why it's happening.

How hard is it to check eligibility criteria = higher rate mobility = can walk ≤20m?

The express is regulated by IPSO, and anyone can make a complaint against inaccuracy within their articles.

I wish we had better recourse to stop politicians & media outlets from deliberately misleading people. Here's what we can currently do:

For the media I guess they are also generating themselves further headlines...

"We lied to people about disability benefits to redirect their anger towards disabled people. Headline news = people swallowed our bullshit & became angry"

When our Govt & media constantly produce this rhetoric they are generating & increasing hostility towards disabled people; increasing hostility towards disabled people erodes support for our lives & wellbeing ready for the next time Labour go after welfare or other services designed to help us.

If eligible for motability, *you still have to pay towards the vehicle*.
This payment to motability can be thousands of pounds for some, with these costs rising, and they need to pay each time the vehicle is replaced.

So unless you have difficulty moving 20 metres safely & reliably you are not eligible for the motability scheme.

If you do qualify? The mobility component of PIP goes to motability - no one receives the money *and* a vehicle or mobility scooter.

Fact check: the criteria for recieving the higher rate mobility component is strict & the assessment process unforgiving.
For PIP you must receive 12 points in the mobility assessment - This means difficulty walking 20 metres.

Fact check: the eligibility criteria on the motability website is in the screenshot below. You must receive the *higher rate of the mobility component* for one of the disability benefits.

Once more taking aim at motability, which rather conveniently aids the Labour Govts apparent ambitions to take a sledgehammer to the scheme that is currently a lifeline for the autonomy, independence, and yes, even ability to work, for many disabled people.
