Shockingly, as many as 80 per cent of autistic girls will turn 18 before getting a diagnosis which can have a huge impact on their identity and their mental health, as Gina discusses in her new book, The Lost Girls of Autism (I highly recommend reading).

We've long thought of autism as predominantly affecting boys, and so the scientific community has gone looking for reasons for why that should be, turning it into a self-fulfilling prophesy. Meanwhile, it's very hard for girls to get an autism diagnosis
