Always in appreciation of the structures nature builds.

All photography my own unless repost.
Part 2: BTW, the 5’ rule- AKA Zone 0 might become state law. It’s easier to enforce plus fire insurance companies do not care if you are choosing the right plants in Zone 0. They just care about money, as in making it.

More science needs to happen around best practices for fire hardening. I’m out there speaking on the topic and accepting clients wanting to get their properties shipshape.

Welcome to BlueSky. I’m really hoping it can take the place of FB and IG even though it’s really more like (old) Twitter.

Thanks. The iNat records in the SF Bay Area mostly seem suspect. I attached a few Parmotrema IDs. I’m due to spend time in Mt. Shasta area this year, so will try to look for it there.

Neat! Curious- where is the southern edge of its range?

I am a backyard chicken keeper. Feed costs a lot. Husbandry takes time. I do it because I like it but it’s definitely a hobby that isn’t cost saving in any way.

Feeling similar! We should make an outing happen. Being outdoors is always nicer than social media.

I hope you have a chance to see ʻieʻie. Maiʻa was a wa’a plant but as you note- most banana grown now is not the traditional one. Enjoy, and I hope your research is transformative. Ma ka hana ka ʻike, ma ka ʻike ka mana.

E pili mau nā pōmaikaʻi me ʻoe no kou hana. Sadly, all the plants in the photo are not native to Hawai’i. I hope you have a chance to see our relatives.

Been talking to whoever will listen about this problem. Very little research tracking fire hardening efforts and what is truly effective while biodiversity is taking a huge hit from wholesale removal efforts.
