A short statement from me following the outcome of yesterday's selection panel interview.
I want to thank everyone who supported my campaign to become Sussex Mayor — the members, councillors, activists, and affiliates who gave their time, encouragement and trust. Your belief in a fairer, greener Sussex has meant everything. Thank you especially to UNISON, CWU, Disability Labour, the Co-operative Party and SERA for your nominations and endorsements, and to every CLP that put their confidence in me. Together, we built something positive, values-led and people-focused. Although I wasn’t shortlisted for the final ballot, I’m proud of the campaign we built — rooted in fairness, sustainability and community. Over 15 years running my own business, and through my work as a charity CEO and district councillor, I’ve worked with senior teams in local government, the NHS and across public services. I know how to get things done — by listening, building partnerships, and turning ideas into action. It’s disappointing that too often, politics overlooks the skills and perspectives of those who have led and delivered in their communities. Real leadership comes from experience, collaboration and a genuine connection to the people we serve. I wish the candidates on the final ballot well. Sussex deserves leadership that listens — and delivers. As for me, I’ll be taking time to reflect and to decide where my energy can make the biggest difference next. Fabulous to be out for the Ashdown and Conquest by-election in Hastings, with the team from @HastingsandRyeLabourParty for their wonderful candidate #AmandaPollard.

Some great support for Amanda, lots of people loved her NHS credentials. The by-election is on 20th November 2025. 🌹

Dai and I have been working together for several years to tackle food poverty in Adur — through both the Shoreham and Adur Community Foodbank, which Dai organises, and the Adur Community Café.

I'm delighted to have the support of Bognor Regis & Littlehampton Labour Party Cllr Michelle White.

The waiting list for family-sized homes in Sussex is years long, in some councils it would take nearly 20 years to clear the backlog.

When it comes to flood risk, Sussex is on the frontline.

As a councillor, I worked with Steve and convened a meeting of all key stakeholders to put in place a plan of action to reduce the impact of flooding on residents and businesses.

When I was on Adur District Council, I had the pleasure of serving with Sharon.

I've seen up close how hard she works for her residents in Mash Barn. I was incredibly proud to see her taking on the Cabinet role for Wellbeing and Communities and I'm incredibly proud to have her support.
