What's the 15-year route meant to correspond to? The government table suggests that would be for immigrants who were in receipt of benefits for less than 12 months - why would that specifically apply to people who entered under H&SC visas?

The implication being that if the UK were seen as equally desirable to France (or Germany etc), rather than more desirable, then there would be a vanishingly low number of people making the dangerous channel crossing.

For what it's worth, I think the meaning of the "destination of choice" assertion is not that the UK is the top destination in terms of overall numbers, but that it's seen as sufficiently desirable for lots of people to make a dangerous small boat trip from other equally safe countries.

Can't see the original tweet - deleted? - but it's always weird when people conflate a superpower declining to become merely a prosperous ordinary country (e.g. Britain, France), and complete societal collapse.
