VIBE CHECK: A lot of what i do focuses on unwilling and varying degrees of Meanness ranging from bullying and teasing to downright monster rampage, i don't dabble in fluff very much at all! There usually isn't much gore but i have horror-focused characters so don't rule it out fully! Andddd here's the info on the lil guys from this world setting!! And yes, eventually Griff will end up with a lil guy who's got a massive one sided infatuation with him, just you wait and see. But for now here's some basic info on these dudes
Fossorophont details Fossorophonts are fast adapters, undergoing an evolution-like process much faster than other species, they have evolved to live underground, and then above ground again, and have since evolved a form of indestructibility from crushing or acid damage after their widespread encounters with ‘The Titan.’ Fossorophonts may share many traits with humanoids and bare a striking resemblance to a human at first glance, but they do have many key differences. One such is their fuzzy, velveteen exoskeleton. While not completely bone hard like many carapaces, it is still a form of rubbery, fuzzy armour and can be noticed when looking closely at their joints, where you will see segmentation like that of a bug or doll's body. Their faces are softer, their harder exoskeleton bordering a softer skin portion- not unlike the ‘mask’ of an owl. The border shape varies from Fossoro to Fossoro but all in some way encircle the face and travel down the bridge of their nose. This softer face skin tends to be a lighter colour than their exoskeleton, and without fuzz save for short whiskers on their eyebrows, cheeks, and often chin. Fossorophonts have wide eyes with colored sclera, no discernible iris and a jet black pupil that can contract and widen like a cat's eye. There is a great deal of individual variety in Fossorophont build and exoskeleton differences, some have patches of much longer fuzz making them look more mammalian, some have insect like rows of spurs on their calves and forearms, and many over variations. Fossorophonts have plantigrade legs with long feet akin to a jerboa or perhaps even comparable to a kangaroos, with their feet twice as long as a humans would be at a comparable height. They also have long tails with little fuzz tufts on the end also like a jerboa, and expressive deer-like ears that point upwards from the head at rest but can swivel and emote freely. Fossorophonts tend to adopt a fairly hunched pose with their hands held ‘raptor hands’-like to their chest, ready to bound away at the first sign of danger. Fossorophont teeth are predominantly sharp, with a few grinding molars in the back. Inside their mouths, to the side against the cheeks, they also have a set of mandibles that can extend out, though these are exceptionally hard to see. Fossorophonts have a vast range of sizes and heights may vary for any number of reasons, from specific locale adaptations, to family genealogy, and some even speculate the surface-born generations have been becoming smaller than their underground-born kin. The average Fossorophont height ranges from half an earth inch to three earth inches tall. Fossorophonts have no sex based differences and gender is seen as a fluid personal concept with more to do with self expression and self actualisation than societal standing or sex. Fossorophonts are all capable of laying fertile eggs to reproduce. Fossorophonts do not have an internal system akin to a humans, with no internal skeleton and just rudimentary simple organs surrounded by green hemolymph. The lack of hard structures internally allows them to bounce back from being squished much easier, as their insides can compress fairly harmlessly. Fossorophonts have an advanced agricultural focused society, living with a barter system and splitting work up evenly amongst the community with many living as ranchers or farmers. They live in homes built out of desert rock that they paint with bright vibrant art and their society has a great emphasis on the importance of music, art and creative expression. Fossorophonts are raised communally and monogamy is very rare amongst them, there is no Fossoro concept akin to marriage and very little difference drawn between romantic and platonic feelings. In Fossorophont society everyone kisses the homies goodnight. The main exceptions to this way of life are mainly seen within the religious fringe, where community is given up in favour of serving their cult leader. The Children of the Piercing Light are known for taking a callous approach of not seeing Fossorophonts outside of their cult as being as worthy to life as them and frequently raid ranches and farms to sustain themselves. There are no relationships romantic or otherwise in The Children of the Piercing Light, all are expected to give themselves wholly to their leader who acts as a “ transferring vessel” to the gods. Fossorophont’s take great pride in individual modifications via piercing, tattooing and painting their bodies, facial paint and tattoos are quite common especially. Clothing is another point of individualistic pride (outside of the cult) and many Fossoro take pleasure in crafting dyed materials to make their own unique outfits. Ponchos and hats tend to be popular for those working outdoors a lot, many Fossoro also enjoy a lot of drapery and toga-like outfits. Fossorophont culture treats ‘natural’ death (aka via old age and natural causes) as part of the never ending circle of life and part of their death ritual involves the consumption of dead relatives during funeral rights. Many speculate this practice first evolved from early ancestors feeding their young on their dead, back when Fossoro more resembled insects than sophonts. ‘Unnatural’ death (aka via disaster, murder, ect) is treated as the circle being broken for that Fossoro and is an occasion for great mourning; those who die in this manner are usually buried in mass graveyards, many of which serve as places for monuments of remembrance of great tragedies. Even non-religious Fossoro hold this belief of the circle of life, it is seen not as a point of religion or belief but a fact rooted moreso in their relationship to decay and how that as a natural act has fed and nourished them through their years underground, feeding on fungi, plant matter and many such things. The difference with The Children of the Piercing Lights belief compared to other Fossoro’s view of the circle of life is The Children believe this is a cycle needing to be ended by their gods, who must feed upon this circle of energy; and that giving themselves up to them allows them to escape the circle to something ‘greater’ afterwards.
