Reminds me of my childhood with the propane space heaters we would use. We'd put a cheap pan of water on top to evaporate for humidity. I think we may have used it to make popcorn once.

We do something similar in winter when the air gets dry. We have very hard water that tends to destroy commercial humidifiers, so wet up a water basin and a wet towel in front of the space heater to act as a low tech humidifier. Of course, the towel is far enough away to not catch fire.
