I've been donating things to a local charity that helps stray animals and struggling pet parents. Much better than the discriminatory charities.

Because so far he has proved the opposite.

Democrats is a diverse group, from corporate to centrist to progressive. We just saw some corporate dems roll over, but I don't believe all of them are like that or would do that.

Trump believes arms can be twisted anywhere. It's just a matter of finding the person who can apply the right pressure. Might be friendly carrot or a stick like blackmail or being dragged into court.

I think of a robber baron as a kingpin in a particular industry, like Charles Koch or Jeff Bezos.
Trump is more of a mafia boss. He flat out threatens people to get his way. He sells different things, but what you're really buying is influence and protection.

That's what progressive has come to mean IMO.
Republicans work for rich guys who want to exploit you.
Democrats work for rich guys who only want to subjugate you a little.
Progressives want to see people live happy, fulfilling lives and don't weight rich guys more than anyone else.

The economy is certainly worse now, but it's also true that economy metrics are geared to the big players, not the people on the ground. Low unemployment is better than high, but look how many of those jobs don't pay subsistence wages. Profits are up, but that doesn't get to workers.

They want to kill off people without poisoning the soil for themselves. For that, disease is better than nuclear war.

They know this very well. Instead of educating the public, they tell healthy people that they should abandon the system, not revealing that the system would collapse for everyone. They take advantage of people, as all Republicans try to do.

I am surprised they are making health insurance companies out to be the villains.
The obvious way to bypass health insurance companies is single payer.

Millions voted for Trump.
After the crash in 2008, bankers told Congress that recessions just happen as part of a natural cycle, and no one had a counterargument.
Recycling.
Global warming.
Pollution.
There is a long history of old white men fooling the nation.

I don't think that's the reason.
I agree, nobody is that stupid.
I don't think they're telling us the real calculus. Might be airline industry. Might be Christmas retail season that kicks off Saturday.

I don't think they bought the lie. I think that's the cover story. There's a different reason this happened.
Might have been pressure to save the almighty Christmas retail season, during which many a business crosses into profitability for the year. That would be consistent with extending to Jan.

You have a faction that wants to destroy institutions just as we do in the US. Yours are still at the "squeeze from inside" stage, while ours are in full "burn it down" mode. (Please use us as a cautionary tale. Most people who voted for this didn't understand the scope of what would happen.)

If you want people to stop obsessing over money, it needs to be abundant enough that it can be taken for granted. UBI would go a long way.
Some people will still obsess over money, but those people should be in therapy.
