I hope some bright young people will feel emboldened to argue in class that Jesus’s messages of tolerance and pacifism don’t align with the regime’s actions.

I’m 74 and grew up in the south. There were white and “colored” water fountains. Separate sections in theaters. Black patients waiting on an unheated porch while whites sat in a carpeted waiting room inside. And so much more. No one had to teach a child racism; it was in the very air we breathed.

I have often thought people with cats should put fancy pedestals in the rooms so the cats could be seen as the living artworks they are.

100 percent. Republicans are going to own the pain they cause. They are going to have to put up or shut up on healthcare. (Or do neither. My bet’s on that.) Democrats have to make sure voters see Republicans’ fingerprints on every health insurance payment, every grocery receipt, every lost job.
