Truly a great movie. The book is better (of course) but if you want a companion to your muppet Christmas carol, I can't recommend it enough. Over two nights though, since it's 3 hours.

Teatime's belief in "reality" when it comes to unreal beings ending up being his death is icing on the cake.
December 21, 2025 at 4:02 AM
"you need to believe in things that aren't true. How else can they become." Man. That hits.

And now we get into the difference between a flaming ball of gas and the sun.
December 21, 2025 at 3:54 AM
And with death, the sun arises. Because that's how belief works.

(this is also the weakest part of the movie interpretation for me. The book does it much better)

We begin with the sacrifice of a pig and end with the modern day interpretation, with stops along the way.

Death and Susan following the evolution of the Hogfather and it's relationship to making the sun come up at the end is one of my favorite moments of storytelling of all time.

Honestly, Banjo being in charge of the teeths fairy castle is *chefs kiss*.

But if you've been following along, behind the final door we have the first bogeyman. And all they wants was to keep kids safe.

I may have inadvertently split the thread. Sorry.
December 21, 2025 at 3:39 AM
Have I mentioned that Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery plays Susan? So good.
December 21, 2025 at 3:37 AM
Susan slapping teatime and shouting "I'm the inner babysitter" is gold.
December 21, 2025 at 3:34 AM
Banjo ain't having it. The Hogfather has to happen.
December 21, 2025 at 3:25 AM
And now Teatime is getting into it with Susan in front of Banjo about the Hogfather being dead.
December 21, 2025 at 3:24 AM
Teatime has access to the door they've been trying to hack into the whole time now.
December 21, 2025 at 3:22 AM
Anyway, now death is instructing Hex to believe in the Hogfather, and honestly, goals for every AI bot.
December 21, 2025 at 3:18 AM
We're operating within a framework of "if I do x, y happens" and while there is room for improvement, anyone implementing a 1984 style overhaul of my reality can shit bricks.
December 21, 2025 at 3:17 AM
Look, I'm a scientist by trade, and I know that a lack of belief won't mean the sun won't come up tomorrow (as death asks Hex), but I do think it speaks to social norm acceptance.
