Just got home. Had a great day; went to the Gay Stuff Markets at St Kilda. Met some artists, bought some stuff including this amazing print of a pelican in her piety (except I think maybe it's a crane).

Scooted along the Bay to Port Melbourne, back to town via the Sandridge Trail...

We are at the side of an outdoor tennis court, on ground level near the baseline, quite close to the player. Share a bird pic you took
It is a cloudy afternoon. We are on a concrete path, running between some waste ground fenced off with cyclone wire, and a nature strip with trees and grass separating us from a suburban back street. Just above us, an Australian magpie flies towards the fence. They have been captured with their wings open wide. The feathers on the end of their wings are spread out so we can clearly see each individual one, and so are their tail-feathers. The bird is mostly black, with white curves running from the base of the wing to the leading edge. The part of the tail closest to the body is white too, as is a small marking on the back of their neck. The bird's grace and power are on full display.

We are not far above a tennis court, with a hard blue surface. Fiona came over for dinner and we watched another episode of The Almighty Johnsons.

So, the first pic is almost EXACTLY how I was thinking a year ago. I said to the person who suggested I might be trans that I was worried it wasn't real if I didn't feel dysphoria.

And now? Well there's a photo of me today. I look and feel so happy after 8 weeks on estrogen. Euphoria indeed

There's been a seal who's made a regular home on the rocks on Altona Beach. Unfortunately people have been climbing out on the rocks to get far too close to it.

A local FB group is arranging people to stand near the seal, put up these signs, and educate people about giving it space.

My eating habits have changed a lot, and I'm so proud. It's not like I will never make myself a rich cafe-style bacon and egg breakfast, or eggs Benedict or something, but this is now in the mix for a fancy weekend breakfast and I feel great about it.
On the photographer's kitchen bench is a crockery plate decorated in bright, happy colours dominated by yellow scalloped fish-scale patterns. On the plate is a wide, flat bowl, containing a salad of quarters of boiled egg arranged regularly around the edge, with the tips pointing outward. There are also baby spinach, chopped toasted walnuts, tiny tomatoes in various colours, avocado, and mushroom dressed with lemon olive oil and Tajin seasoning. On the plate there are also a banana and a nectarine. Next to it there is a double-walled coffee glass full of latte.

On a tiny piece of lake water under an overcast sky, a black swan is about to land. Its feet are down, almost touching the water, and its wings are spread wide to slow it down to touchdown speed. Behind, a cormorant looks on, apparently unbothered. The lake is surrounded by grassy reeds; we look through a small gap in that boundary.

Altona Skipper Butterfly Sculpture

This is my third submission of three for the Rehearsing The City exhibition

We stand very near a small clearing of hard, sandy ground, nestled among scrubby urban bushland. We are looking through the stems of a tuft of a grassy plant, Chaffy Saw-Sedge, at a reddish-brown iron sculpture of an Altona Skipper butterfly. The sculpture is supported by a vertical piece of iron, and the tops of its wings are perhaps two and a half metres above ground level. The patterning on its wings is represented by pieces cut out of the iron. To its right stands an interpretive sign. This sculpture represents the effort to encourage the Altona Skipper butterfly to breed and thrive at Cherry Lake in Altona. It needs the Chaffy Saw-Sedge to breed in, and a program of planting it there has been carried out by Melbourne Water, the authority in charge of the lake. The clearing with the sculpture at a focal point reminds one of a summoning circle; an image of what is desired has been erected as the environment has been changed to encourage that result. The sculpture reminds us of the goal, to be brought about the co-operation of human effort and natural processes.

The Adelaide Festival has completely surrendered (good) on the Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah controversy. They will invite her to speak at next year's Writers' Week in 2027.

I suppose they could have gone further in admitting they were appeasing expansionist Australian and Israeli Zionists

So I went to the post office today. I was so glad to see that most of the crap that makes it almost un-navigable on a mobility scooter has been removed! I was so happy.

I know individual post offices have profit quotas or something, hence being filled with useless tat to sell. But that's changed?
Most of the space in a suburban post office. The area is mostly empty, with just a couple of shelves, but a large amount of room to line up and, say, swing a mobility scooter around.

I see a lot of trans women posting pre-transition photos and saying they look dead inside and stuff.

Now I didn't feel like that, in fact I was pretty happy at this stage in my life. At least more happy than I'd ever been before. But this still looks like such pretence to me now. I *look* angry.

We are in an elevated position, looking out towards an intersection of two main roads. Behind the modern urban setting is a tall red-brick round tower, over 70 metres or 250 feet high. It rises far above its surrounds, a narrow finger pushing at the sky. Near the very top of the tower, a graffiti cartoon of a bird has been painted; it is the well-known Melbourne icon Pam The Bird. The scene is framed by trees on either side, softening the hard environment of old and new industrialism. The photo has been edited with the Nik HRD Efex filter "Structurised 2", making it look like hand-drawn with lovely coloured pencils. The filter has revealed the cirrus and stratocumulus clouds in the blue sky.
