As @bdelloid.bsky.social suggested, search for an excess of 5'-Uracil. Tools? Not really. I found it helpful, depending on your initial format, awk/bioawk for parsing and binning sequences by size. But you already know that.

May I join the chat? I would say, for non-models, don't set a size range from the beginning; explore the full range for bias (5') in your data. Some organisms can have their piRNA size range shifted compared to others, and boundaries (miRNA, siRNA, piRNA) become blurred.

Excellent work, Alex et al.! I came across the paper today and have been hooked on it all morning. Would it be okay if I asked a few questions about the methods—especially the cytidine analog treatments? Here or better email?
