Just finished Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, taking it's name from Matthew 13:1-9. Many themes run through the book but the two that resonated most with me were the power and richness that comes with community, and the hope that young Lauren stubbornly holds on to.

Finished the Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemison. I listened to the recordings while walking the dogs and I extended the walks to keep listening! Chance, Raven and I all enjoyed the series. So many of the themes seemed to apply to today, and the imperfect characters held my interest.

It's been awhile since I shed a tear at the end of a book. The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store is one that I can add to that list. A wonderful story of neighbors helping each other despite their differences. My favorite parts were the intertwined lives of the community residents.

Just finished Anne Lamott's Traveling Mercies. My last takeaway...when confronted with cruelty, "I knew on the beach that Jesus would have stepped in to save that dog, and he would have been loving the dog beater as he did so." We all need saving and love. #BookSky

Just finished Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson. A good read as the rest of Sanderson's books. I like that it is part of the Cosmere universe but easily stands alone. A bit love story, a bit fantasy, and an interesting world to dive into. #BookSky

The world is a better place with me as a programmer rather than a farmer. But when you visit Iowa...

Walked the dogs through Olde Town Arvada this morning. Big new apartment building almost ready to open and there's a big bunny sculpture by it. Chance christened it but didn't want to pose for a pic.

This has been on my to-be-read bookshelf for a while. Winter cannot be avoided and now seems to be a good time to think on rest and retreat. Wintering by Katherine May. #BookSky

The last haul from the garden before the killing freeze. Not much but it will last for a while. Chance at 11 was busy digging for a mouse in the garden. Fortunately no deaths with the final harvest.
