Introducing our final nominee for Best Cascadian Film, Wild Goat Surf, directed by Caitlyn Sponheimer. The film follows Goat, a preteen who is obsessed with surfing despite being hundreds of miles away from the ocean, whole here mom struggles to hold down multiple jobs just to make ends meet.

Our 4th nominee for Best Cascadian Film, Until Branches Bend, directed by Sophie Jarvis. It follows a woman who works at a peach cannery in the Okanagan Valley who finds a worm hole in a peach. By raising concerns about a potentially invasive species she risks the livelihood of the entire region.

Introducing our third nominee for Best Cascadian Film, Seagrass, directed by Meredith Hama-Brown. The film follows a Japanese-Canadian woman who brings her husband and two children to a couples counseling retreat after the passing of her mother and her marriage on the rocks.

Introducing our first nominee for Best Cascadian Film, Riceboy Sleeps directed by Anthony Shim. The film follows a single mom and her son as they immigrate from Korea to Vancouver as they both struggle to find their place in their new home.

We're the CFTCA, a new group of critics that span the Cascadia region. Right now we represent members from British Columbia and Washington with plans to expand in the future! Starting tomorrow we will be listing the nominees for our inaugural Best Cascadian Film award, so stay tuned for that!
