And yeah, I agree, unless they had something else, they can't detain him any longer. Especially if he was being detained only on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

It doesn't matter- the burden is on the government to prove someone isn't a citizen. This guy is completely within his legal right to not tell them anything, and they can only detain him if they have reasonable suspicion he was here illegally.

Idk why you think that, but that's not at all true. They can't pull someone over for something like speeding, but they're absolutely allowed to pull a car over if they have probable cause of a violation of federal law.

What's the point? There's zero consequences for them not following any of this. Taxpayers foot the bill for the lawsuits and there is zero chance anyone in ICE will ever be criminally charged for violating someone's rights. And even if they were, TACO would immediately pardon them.

A government shutdown would do absolutely nothing to stop any of this. Law enforcement is considered essential so they'd keep working, keep doing whatever it is they're doing there, and they'd probably get paid too like the last shutdown.
