Culture shapes the emotions we value & who we like. How? It also leads to misunderstandings & errors. What are they & how to avoid them?

It's a complex set of issues Jeanne Tsai has worked on for decades. She's incorporating her insights in a book project & discussed it in her CASBS fellows seminar

The gravitational pull of CASBS is undeniable. @ahsfarmer.bsky.social is among a few of last year's fellows who already have visited in recent weeks, though now as 'ghosts' in their former studies...👻

Among 'historic heartland' Muslim countries & other Muslim countries we see weak or strong religious infrastructures & more/less cohesion among Muslim scholars of religious law & theology. How to explain variations?

@profpjones.bsky.social unveiled a dazzling theory during her CASBS fellows seminar

2025 is the 50th anniversary of the publication of "From Teenage to Young Manhood" by Daniel & Judith Offer

The Offers wrote most of the book during Daniel's 1973-74 fellowship. CASBS, of course, is renowned for helping scholars view their own work in a broader perspective... 😏

2024-25 CASBS fellow @maureeneger.bsky.social visited us last week & attempted to re-occupy her fellowship office. (#OccupyCASBS is a thing with former fellows; we have public safety on speed dial.)

We reminded Mo that she's now a 'ghost' of study #40, so, she's already in it and always will be 👻👻

His cohort fellows would believe it, but few others know that 2017-18 CASBS fellow Hsienming "Ming" Lien is among the most popular fellows of the past decade (by exhibition, not competition). His afternoon tea sessions are legend! 🫖

How to achieve population impact on early child abuse? Predictors vary across families & contexts, but Ken Dodge knows it's about nurturing human connections & "a cultural way of doing business." Certain interventions work, but how to scale them? He unpacked the dynamics in his CASBS fellows seminar

A fellow in spring; a ghost by fall. 2024-25 fellow @decelles.bsky.social returned to the hill this week as a former fellow, haunting the study (#12) she occupied just months ago...👻

CASBS fellows often choose their offices (called 'studies' here) for specific reasons, or get inspired once they see the list of former fellows (‘ghosts’) who occupied their studies throughout CASBS history.

Yes, Elena Esposito chose study #31. But the ghosts within it may have chosen her first...👻

2025 is the 30th anniversary of the publication of "Representational Ideas" by Richard Watson

Watson drafted the book during his 3rd CASBS fellowship in 1991-92; he also was a fellow in 1967-68 & 1981-82

So, yeah, Watson knew very well that CASBS indeed is the place to be... 😏
