"Guess who?" Woody Woodpecker made his debut 85 years ago today (Nov. 25, 1940) opposite Andy Panda in the animated short "Knock Knock.” Created by Walter Lantz and Ben Hardaway and originally voiced by Mel Blanc, Woody has since appeared in film, TV, comics, and as mascot for Universal Pictures.

The newspaper comic strip 'Calvin and Hobbes' by Bill Watterson made its debut 40 years ago today. We exhibited a run of Sunday pages back in 2002 and in 2020 showcased an artists' tribute to Watterson in the exhibition 'A Boy and His Tiger.' 1/2
