I make maps and map accessories.
I'm pretty certain I have Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder, caused by a mutation on the CRY1 gene, a.k.a. the Night Owl gene. I've been this way since early childhood. But to me it's not a disorder, it's a bonus feature!

Anyway, it's the longest night of the year. I'm in my element. Let's PARTAY!!!

Tomorrow is the office Christmas potluck and gift exchange, so I baked a literal pound cake for it.

1 pound each of butter, sugar, eggs, and flour

I added a tablespoon each of vanilla for flavor, and baking powder since the batter was xtra thicc and would need some help being less dense.

We're getting closer & closer to Christmas & next week my social calendar is rather full with holiday-related stuff, I may have to go up to Oklahoma to deal with utilities & may have to miss something, & Lupe is just going downhill fast. I don't need •another• rainbow-bridge-at-Christmas experience.

M7.0 Earthquake today in southeast Alaska/southwest Yukon. The area is underneath an ice field, right on the international boundary and very near to Mount Logan, Canada's highest peak. The nearest people are about 60 mi/100 km away.

Oh @wfaa.com.web.brid.gy, I think you need to go back to school to learn what cities are and what states are.

I worked a long day, but I got stuff done.

It's chilly. It's 33°F (1°C) here right now, on the way down to 29°F (–2°C). But it should stay above freezing the rest of the week, although the warmest it's forecast to be is 63°F (17°C).

Anyway, the floors are now cold and so my feet are now cold.

I took the Wednesday before Thanksgiving off from work. That made a five-day weekend for me. And now it's at the end and it feels like it's been only two days.

Blerh.

As is usual on social media, I see a lot of "Native American Butthurt" being spread around social media today by White liberals.

I've been choosing to practice gratitude throughout my life rather than focusing on what others tell me I lack or have lost. I'm a lot happier for it. I hope you can too.

I saw a news story today that the U.N. has determined that Tokyo is no longer the world's largest city. It is now 3rd.

Jakarta is now the world's largest city, followed by Dhaka.

This is the first time in my lifetime Tokyo has not been the world's largest city.

Scheduled for a hairscut today. Wish me luck because the guy who cut my hair the last few times (he was good enough to go back to, but not the best barber I ever had) appears to be gone, and now I have to start over AGAIN!

Last night, two rounds of:

SO! MUCH!! LIGHTNING!!!
SO! MUCH!! RAIN!!!

We got 1.76 inches (44.7 mm) of rain last night; most of that from approximately 4:00 to 4:20 AM.

There wasn't really any wind, but at one point they issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning due radar-indicated hail.

Our homeowner insurance premium has tripled in the past 5 years. ... Our mortgage will be paid off in about 2 years, at which point I'm going to suggest to my husband that we seriously consider self-insuring.

'Twas the Saturday before Thanksgiving
Everywhere and around
All the people were grocery shopping
All over the town
The shelves had been stocked
With profit and care
But now they were empty
The hordes had been there

Actually I got everything but one that I needed, and I can macguyver that last one.

Nothing exciting has been going on. I've just been running around like crazy trying to work full time (not exciting), and taking care of real estate issues 90 miles away in another state (not exciting), and unsuccessfully trying to get prescriptions refilled for several weeks (not exciting).

Today I was bored and in the mood to make a map, but as an artistic concept instead of thematic or informational. So I drew the US out of small hexagons.

Later I realized "This is the kind of thing people turn into games," so I was wondering if anyone had feedback (other than bigger hexagons).

Elsewhere on social media, someone was complaining that the Senate is unnecessary and how most countries get by with a unicameral government.

So I wondered, if you combined the House + Senate to form a 535-member Congress, then reapportioned it, how would the size of each state's delegation change?

Here is a photo of the Nov. 4, 2025 #UPS Flight 2976 crash site in Louisville that I've marked-up with street names and nearby businesses on the ground. The end of the runway is just off-screen to the upper right.

As of this morning there are 14 confirmed fatalities and 9 people remain missing.

The first freeze of the season is forecast for Monday morning.

I have a site visit scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon to get the process started for getting electricity to my new house on The Farm. But, the manager I spoke with said that they're quite backed up and it could be February or even March before they can get power installed there. Eek!!

HOORAY FOR STANDARD TIME!!!!

I'll finally be able to sleep at a normal hour and be productive in the mornings! ... maybe even on-time for things.

Humans, like all animals, evolved by the sun, not by what a clock says. At least with standard time, the clock is wrong by 27 minutes, not 87 minutes.

Well, it's a sad day for Lupe—and me. She's still with us, but her incontinence has reached the point that she is no longer allowed on any furniture. For the first time in several years, last night she slept in her kennel instead of in the bed pressed up against me. Her time left on Earth is short.

I woke up just a little after 4 AM and am now fully awake. Bladder said "Well, while you're up..." but that's not what woke me up. It's windy outside, but the radar does not show storms in the area. I think maybe I just got too hot? I've woken up sweating a few times lately.

The #Dallas / #FortWorth metroplex reached 8 million population in mid-2024, and by mid-2025 had grown to 8.3 million population.

That's like the entire city of #Anchorage moving here in the last 12 months, or half the population of #Vermont or #Wyoming.

And the traffic bears witness to it!

I can't remember now what triggered this idea, but anyone who has grown up in a small, rural town will totally get this.
