Seriously – Potsdam is well worth a day trip! The Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park is fun too.

The image of crusading lawyers arguing before political courts has to be replaced with a stereotype that the law is all deeply dull, exciting only to a few nerds.

I don’t believe it would require any homes being destroyed; it’s mainly greenery on both sides of the line.

The challenges would I think be rebuilding Earlsfield station and the road bridges.

I think both of those are fair points!

Streatham station is currently a bit of a pain given the issues with the Wimbledon Loop but I have a plan to fix that…

I’ve previously written about how we should descope Crossrail 2, so it no longer serves Chelsea and Hackney. This will enable it to be built more cheaply. www.greaterlondon.co/p/crossrail-...

But there is still a need to connect Chelsea and Hackney (and various other places!) to the Tube network.

What would it take to build another Elizabeth Line?

Am I correct in thinking it just wasn’t allowing presale signups for the European shows?

Isn’t a citizen’s arrest warrant a contradiction?

If you’re referring to the same video I saw – they didn’t even successfully apprehend them! Truly remarkable.

Thanks! I hadn’t realised you had invented the term: could you pop me a link to wherever you first used it so I can credit you with it?

I’d go with /ˌɔːxənˈrɒx/, but I’d imagine some Scots (and most English) would go with /ˌɔːkənˈrɒk/.

That’s not the argument I’m making. I’m saying that as a matter of law, we are not bound by the ICJ.

That is of course a separate question from the moral and strategic arguments. But we shouldn’t pretend that we are in any legal sense ‘required’ to hand back the Chagos Islands.
February 6, 2025 at 11:02 AM
The ICJ opinion was advisory. It’s not legally binding unless all parties consent to be bound by the Court’s decision.

You can disagree with the consent requirement, of course, but that’s what the rules are. As a matter of law it’s just wrong to say that Britain ‘has’ to give up the Chagos Islands.

Did you also do the last verse?

“Here comes a candle to light you to bed,
“And here comes a chopper to chop off your head!
“Chip chop chip chop the last man is dead”

I’m convinced Arab Sheikhs see litigation (and disputes more generally) as a hobby. At least it makes plenty of money for the commercial Bar!
