An appeals court is letting the Trump administration “defund” Planned Parenthood by icing it out of Medicaid.
In a press call, I asked Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson if the group is considering letting affiliates stop providing abortions to preserve federal funding. She confirmed it:

Today, Texas AG Ken Paxton sent a cease-and-desist letter to a group that mails abortion pills to Texans—but it may have backfired.
A group founder told me that, after Paxton’s letter went public, more than 150 Texans reached out for abortion pills.

Texas has taken legal action against a New York county clerk who has refused to enforce a TX fine against a NY abortion provider. The dispute will test NY’s “shield law,” which protects abortion providers, and may go to the US supreme court.

A New York county clerk has again rejected an effort by Texas to fine a New York abortion provider who allegedly mailed pills to Texas. The refusal is based on New York’s shield law, which aims to protect abortion providers who ship pills across state lines.
The clerk is clearly having a good time.

Jia Tolentino also wrote a nice story about THE SECOND COMING and the Gen Z sex recession that incorporates a lot of my book's social and historical research. (I'm ignoring the "middling pun" line. Puns are great! I will defend puns to the death!) www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

Over the last 3 years, I interviewed 100+ people under 30 to understand how #MeToo, the fall of Roe v. Wade, the rise of social media and more have changed their sex lives. THE SECOND COMING: Sex and the Next Generation’s Fight Over Its Future is now out in the world. Buy it at your local bookstore.

I loved talking with @andreagonram.bsky.social and @thecut.com about my new book. Apologies for, uh, quoting myself, but this moment demands that we understand how much conservatives and the Trump administration are shaping our most personal choices.

The NYT's feature on Skrmetti seems to suggest that reproductive rights groups are not on board with linking their fight to trans rights. But these groups generally ARE supportive. Planned Parenthood providers even joined an amicus brief in Skrmetti (which this story doesn't mention...)
