centered in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), one of the largest school districts. On Monday, CMS reported over 30,000 absences across the district as ICE activity ramped up. Entire schools saw dramatic drops in attendance, with walkouts and coordinated actions happening at multiple campuses.

There are also simple, lawful ways communities can help: business owners can choose not to serve ICE agents food or allow them to use the restroom; hotel and restaurant staff can ask to see a judicial warrant before granting access to private areas; and bystanders can legally record ICE
