centered in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), one of the largest school districts. On Monday, CMS reported over 30,000 absences across the district as ICE activity ramped up. Entire schools saw dramatic drops in attendance, with walkouts and coordinated actions happening at multiple campuses.

Americans deserve to know whether their personal voter information was swept into a federal immigration database, why the purpose of the data collection changed, and what protections will be put in place to prevent wrongful voter purges, investigations, or intimidation.

There are also simple, lawful ways communities can help: business owners can choose not to serve ICE agents food or allow them to use the restroom; hotel and restaurant staff can ask to see a judicial warrant before granting access to private areas; and bystanders can legally record ICE

Residents described officers sprinting through parking lots, jumping fences behind small bakeries and mercados. Some said they watched people shoved to the ground, grocery bags splitting apart, oranges rolling into traffic, voices shaking as shouts ricocheted between brick storefronts.

This is the new playbook:
Commit misconduct -> claim persecution -> sue the government -> cash out.

If this becomes normalized, every corrupt official will try to hit taxpayers with their legal bills. And yet somehow, almost no one is talking about it.
