I miss the emerging garlic in April. I miss the order of the June garden. I miss the chaos of August’s abundance. But November is the deep peace and satisfaction of a well stocked cold room.

Breathe deeply, taking a moment to wonder at our matchless blue-green sphere.

I suffer from snow superstition - do you? This is an early season snow, so is it the happy harbinger of things to come, or the only taste of winter we’ll get?

I consider myself an advanced beginner weaver. Does it ever get less scary to cut the project off the loom? May your Sunday be full of silly questions and delightful answers!

Forty-two turkeys wandered by this morning. Four toms checked out their gorgeousness in the windows downstairs. A friend doesn’t believe me that they know when season starts and ends, and so make themselves scarce. Season ended October 31!

Would have normally gone to Rutland, VT, but would need to climb a hill and walk a bit — got a new hip Thursday, so taking it slow and flat. Good to support a small rally.

NO KINGS in small, rural Granville, NY, a typically deep red locale. 200+ people strong.

Dahlia tubers dug. Tomorrow will separate and tuck them safely away for the winter.

Getting the glads dug up and sorted. I find this season both melancholic and promising. Sad because of the departure of such beauty (flowers, birds, veggies), and promising for tranquility in taming summer’s chaos of abundance.

Could be the last one I see this year. Cold last night. Spent the day cutting down the dahlias to prep for digging them up; freezing peppers and peas; drying shittake; making sauerkraut. October.
