Local Action Calling to oppose the Landover Data Center
This week’s Local message: Say no to PGC Data Center Data centers are popping up everywhere, but they wreck the environment and local economy. Data centers use a lot of water and electricity, but those energy costs affect the local energy and water consumption, raising prices on all consumers, not just the data center. According to the Environmental and Energy Study Institute (EESI) large data centers can consume up to 5 million gallons of water PER DAY! Action: Contact your district council member and the two At-Large members to tell them NO! to the Landover Data Center. See the link below on where to find the council members: https://pgccouncil.us/27/The-Council Proposed script (Excerpts from The Black Alliance for Peace): I am calling to express my opposition to the Landover Data Center. The proposed site will exponentially increase utility costs due to high electricity demand. At the same time, it only creates minimal long-term jobs for residents. Data centers have a history of raising taxes on community members, and stress the electric grid structure. We could have rolling blackouts in 2027 due to these data centers. The data center is near residential areas, a senior home, and a school. Residents have overwhelmingly voiced opposition at hearings, citing increased utility costs, health, clean air, clean water, noise pollution, environmental justice, and property values. Despite this, the County Council approved the necessary zoning changes, demonstrating a clear prioritization of corporate interests over the well-being and will of the community. Please honor the demands of your constituents and vote against the Landover Data Center.

Messaging Storm Wednesday October 29, 2025 All Day Action: A coordinated call to our Elected Officials U.S. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121 This week’s National message: Funding for SNAP & WIC 42 million Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients and 7 million Women, Infants ad Children Program recipients are about to lose life-saving assistance because of the government shutdown. The president is refusing to use $5 billion in contingency funds to continue funding these programs that feed pregnant women, children and provide formula to infants. Action: Call your Representatives and Senators to say that allowing these SNAP and WIC benefits will unnecessarily harm our most vulnerable populations. Every American deserves to have access to affordable, healthy food; SNAP and WIC make it possible for many families to stay afloat. Maryland Note: Senators Alsobrooks and Van Hollen, and many of our Democratic representatives have all vocally pushed back against the White House illegal withholding of funds and using hungry children and families as political pawns. Messaging Storm Wednesday October 22, 2025 All Day Action: A coordinated call to our Elected Officials U.S. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121 This week’s message: Oppose a Blank Check for the White House The Republicans in the Senate refuse to negotiate on reinstating popular ACA tax credits for Americans, and health insurance premiums are about to increase 2-4 times over. As the shutdown continues, Federal workers have been laid off from essential departments like Education and the CDC. But Republicans demand that Democrats blindly sign the current House-approved funding bill claiming they can negotiate after the government reopens. Democrats have been burned by these empty promises before. Reopening without real negotiation gives a blank check and provides Trump unilateral budget control. This is unconstitutional as the power of the purse lies with Congress alone. Action: Call your Representatives, Senators and Governor to say you and 78% of Americans want to see ACA tax credits expanded for Americans and that using Federal workers as pawns is reckless and inhumane.
