These look like a bunch of liverwort sporophytes, possibly crestwort?

It was not emerging from the tips, if anything the base. I'm not 100% sure it was coming out of the moss though!

I took a sample btw, I'm trying to do some microscopy to look at the spores

It's on a moss covered log. Redwood forest, but I think it's on some kind of oak. No stream or swap super close by but it's in a gulch that stays wetter than nearby areas. The particular log is out of frame but super close by in this photo. This area is my #1 slime spot

I don't think there was any iridescence, not that I saw

I dont think I'll be back until Tuesday, but this is in the exact same spot late February last year (24 hrs apart)
