Good morning to you, Ray, and happy Friday! Yes!! At last! I hope that abomination really gets shut down ASAP. Trump et al. have ignored judges before, so 🤞🏻! Alligator Auschwitz should never have been allowed even for a minute. The injustice and horror, the environmental impact, and the expense.

Black Beauty, Autobiography of a Horse. Received 7th birthday. Not sure if read it myself at 7, but soon after. Being kind to others, incl. animals, how bad is cruelty & effects of carelessness.
Short story "Star, Bright" by Mark Clifton at 10 or 11. My intro to topology. 🤩

The Atlanta Public Library has been an important part of my life since I was a small child. I donate what I can, but am afraid for my and all of our libraries now.

I learned about "tortitude" AFTER adopting her. 😸

First term I'd noticed often trump wanted and expected Divine Right of Kings. Now he wants to decorate like Louis XIV. 😒
This "president" has never cared about anyone but himself.

Yes! I should probably reread it since it's been years, maybe find another translation to compare.

That's great and too on point.
I also still really like this from a Scottish newspaper before trump's first inauguration.

I'm pretty sure she did. I'd read that's how they met, but it was long enough ago, I googled and found a new article. Not a member, haven't read all of it.

Books had already been banned in this country, but not to this extent. And usually because of explicit sex and/or violence, not different politics or telling about something bad that happened that they prefer to ignore.
Trump has made their "free speech" not just allowed but encouraged.

It is so exhausting. And so upsetting about what ICE and "Alligator Alcatraz" (more like Alligator Auschwitz) are doing to people.
Apropos of nothing, notification that a book I ordered is arriving today! It was banned again 😠, this time in Tennessee, so I bought a copy. HB was cheaper than PB! ☺️

Cool about the pendant! I don't have much I've had that long except for my Tiger Benny. Friends of my parents gave him to me when I was born. His eyes (now just one😿 bc our maid leaned him against a light bulb, was talking on 📞 & didn't "hear" me calling, I couldn't reach) that glow in the dark!

It is & yes. I can understand a little intellectually: my advantage even if slight is the only important thing, if others are hurt or die 🤷🏼‍♂️ they're just pawns. But 😱😱😱
I grew up on books like Black Beauty where not just horses but anyone feels & matters. That's true IMO.

Went to the grocery store today. Eggs weren't on my list, but this display of eggs got my attention.

Sometimes the library only has a book I want in book format. So check options. But I have a good number of books at home, some I haven't read + ones I like to reread. And a few hundred Kindle books I mostly got free.
Yeah! I can pick up a few hundred books with two fingers! 😂 So convenient!

Inflation would be almost $7 today, but used copies cost more than that, even in poor condition. Seems to be out of print, but Fantasia Mathematica - same type book, same format, by same author - Amazon shows list price of $44.99 though currently can get it for $34.12.

Since we have free public libraries, my guess is mainly the time. Though basic reading ability and the interest would be needed.
Books have gotten awfully more expensive. Mentioned a book on Twitter and suddenly noticed its price when I bought it, $1.95. 😲
January 16, 2025 at 9:49 AM
Really?! 🎉🥂 I think that was true in the 18th and 19th centuries. Fewer owned and you had to pay a subscription to borrow a book. No free public libraries. 🙀

It really does! Even other countries, like Scotland (see newspaper clip below), felt that 8 years ago.
Now, on repeat, even more so. 😨
