They were trapped into it by a Conservative MP who cloaked the comments as a denunciation of political violence (which other parties would have been shamed for not supporting) and weaving in the narrative about Kirk, so that the optics could be spun as honouring Kirk instead of denouncing violence.

I’ve written my Liberal MP, to express my disappointment. Hopefully she and her fellow Liberal MPs will be more measured in their responses, if a similar situation arises again.
