Two young Wood Ducks spotted this morning. You can tell the one on the right is a male because it's getting its distinctive red eye and also has a little more of a mullet.

There were at least four Eastern Phoebe fledglings out in the woods yesterday- flitting around a little, getting fed. Whenever they were on a branch together, they kept scooching together until they were touching 😍🪶

Another reason to replace parts of your lawn with native perennials: it gives your Snapper friends more places to dig. This girl didn't lay any eggs this morning, but Snapping Turtles sometimes do some exploring before deciding where to dig a nest. My guess is she'll be back in the coming days.

The Bluebird nest in my backyard birdhouse didn't work out, on account of the House Wrens, but I'm happy to see that the Bluebirds still come around hunting bugs in the grass.
