Beautifully put. At this time of year I'm always hoping for woodcock. The disappearing back end of one, which is mostly all you get, would satisfy me! Lucky you.

I too have heard a blackbird singing, two evenings in a row. Not the full number, but a few sweet notes unmistakably blackbird. Never heard this before in December, but then it is incredibly mild.
