230 allows media platforms to not be sued for what's on their platform. They should be able to be sued so they can take more responsibility. It motivates platforms to not propagate disinformation for financial gain, not in site violence, not push child porn without penalty, etc. etc. etc.

Social safety net does not equal handouts. It's money set aside to help people in a capitalist system where financial fluctuations have a dramatic effect on people's ability to sustain themselves. They're not handouts their ways of remedying the unfair and capricious nature of capitalism.
