It’s vital for a therapist to be attuned to their client and meet them where they’re at. Not picking up on the subtle signals of their needs can cost the client healing and the therapist a client.

I greatly encourage U.S. therapists who are not trauma informed to please find some CEUs or consultation so you can recognize and support your clients whose trauma history has been activated either directly or vicariously by President Trump’s actions.

A. Teach me anxiety management skills.

B. Do a deep dive because it’s about what’s underneath that my boss’ behavior is tapping into.

C. Just listen, I only want to vent.

D. Tell me to quit!
