I remember watching this as an 8 yr old and Abner Brown scaring the absolute bejaysus out of me.

Watched it again last year on IPlayer and was so struck by Robert Stephens' commitment to his role. It was like he was in some Shakespearian tragedy rather than a kid's show. He's simply marvellous.
