I remember there's a 3e DnD setting called The Scarred Lands that decided to explain scantily clad spellcasters with its magic system. It tweaked it so that casting spells actually made the caster physically heat up, to the point of gaining cold resistance.

Maybe... but he's a venial and petty bastard, so it's probably more "Oh, they got me on real estate deals? Then I'll just get them on real estate deals!"
