After an uprising in 1881 by Colorado Utes, three more tribes were forcibly removed to a new 1.9m acre Ouray Reservation.
In 1888, congress removed 7,004 acres that contained valuable gilsonite.
It also opened the reservation to white settlers, who were able to purchase lots for $1.25 an acre.
