Looking at NCELP vocabulary, I found "coger", a verb I have not taught in 20 years of teaching mostly because for millions of native speakers of Spanish it translates as the f- word. There it was; I thought to myself "surely not in the GCSE list. Yes, effing again.

Well... if it is truly the most frequent vocabulary we would be already teaching it, wouldn't we? Despite the occasional appearance of the odd, less frequent words or the neutral pronoun in the textbook.
I am not sure about the verb tenses selected, though.

English teachers: "the vocabulary that we read is quite different from the vocabulary that we hear". (EEF podcast, Vocabulary and Language).

MFL specification, look at the corpora...
